Accept wearing of Hijab just like dreadlocks in SHS – Umaru Sanda Amadu tells GES

Somewhere last week, Ghana Education Service (GES) instructed authorities of Achimota School to admit two (2) first-year students who reported on campus with dreadlocks.
This follows a massive debate on social media after reports went viral that the school had refused to admit the children although they gained admission.
It’s at the back of GES’s instruction to Achimota School to admit the two Rastafarians that Umaru Sanda Amadu, a well-known journalist with the Accra-based Citi FM, has called on GES to accept the wearing of Hijab by Muslim female students in SHS.
“Now that the GES has made a definite pronunciation on the wearing of dreadlocks to school by Rastafarians on Cultural/Religious grounds, can we have a similar pronunciation on Hijab?” the Journalist quizzed.
Meanwhile, Professor Kwasi-Opoku Amankwa who is the Director-General of Ghana Education Service in an interview with the Daily Graphic newspaper said the Rastafarian students will be given admission but they should tie their hair neatly as their culture demands.
