Img 20200709 Wa0017 1024x576The arrest of Hushpuppi on charges of money Laundering and fraud has further dented the image of the country as a whole and has so far sparked a fresh set of stereotypes against Nigerian people.

Reports have it that, a Dubai based recruitment consultancy placed an advert for a vacancy inviting potential applicants from all over Africa with the exception of people from Nigeria which is very discriminatory and unfair to the many good people of Nigeria.

It is irrefutably true that, crime of all forms must be condemned. However, such condemnation must be fairly applied. It is very true that, some Nigerians are engaging in fraudulent activities but that cannot be a basis to draw every Nigerian citizen into such a stigmatized Bracket.

There are a lot of well-respected Nigerians out there who are very hardworking and earns legitimate money with enviable reputations. Some of the best professionals from industry, medicine, entertainment and all other aspects are Nigerians.

The country produces some of the best musicians in the world. The likes of Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, among others who are making strides at the international front are typical examples; Nigeria produces medical Doctors who do not only serve citizens of the country. Their services benefit quite a number of people. Reports have it that, about 2,000 doctors trained in Nigeria, have migrated to other countries, especially Europe in recent times.

We can talk of Nigerian billionaires including Aliko Dangote, Mike Adenuga, Femi Otedola, Folorunsho Alakija and the rest who keep investing in legitimate businesses across the world.

Additionally, Nigeria as a country is doing so well in economic terms and currently, the country is an economic powerhouse on the continent of Africa. This success came through the collective efforts of the Nigerian people. Culturally, they have contributed a lot to the progress of Africa through music and movies.

Long story short, it will be malicious and very diabolical to deliberately overlook the positive side by painting the country bad and reducing the good and hardworking Nigerians into the “fraudulent” narrative and deny them of certain basic rights.
