My leadership was “neat, clean”, Kufuor brought monetisation, dirty politics – Rawlings

0 Fgnimeeef5qdrlztFormer President Jerry John Rawlings has chastised ex-President John Agyekum Kufour for failing to continue with his clean politics and introducing monetisation into politics which has become the way of politics in the country.

In an explosive interview with veteran journalist Kwaku Sakyi-addo on Asaase Radio’s Sunday Night programme last Sunday monitored by Ghleaks.xyz, Mr Rawlings said late for President John Atta Mills and former President John Mahama failed to live up to the ideals of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which he founded in 1992, but went down the path of explaining President Kufuor.

“…I think they may have decided that if they can’t go along with my kind of neat, clean politics … they would like to do it the Kufuor and his NPP way: monetise it”

“So, naturally, he would have to leave Kufuor and all his sins alone, and engage in the same type of politics, monetising the whole programme, the whole process…That is why corruption has gone so deep … since I left office,” he lamented.

Mr Rawlings called out Atta Mills for failing to prosecute corrupt ex-government officials and thereby encouraging corruption and impunity.
“He was unwilling to touch any of those things[ tackling corruption] ,” Rawlings noted.

He again called out John Kufour for selectively jailing NDC officials out of pique and hatred.

“It’s as if he doesn’t understand basic psychology, about right and wrongs. In his refusal to halt, to investigate … and to clean up some of those wrongs, some of those injustices, the wrong would end up perpetuating itself…That’s how come we went downhill … How can you hate people in their brilliance to the extent that you would want to jail people like Tsatsu Tsikata?” He quizzed.

He explained that the hatred exhibited by John Kufour is testament to the wickedness of capitalists.
“But you’ve got to understand the nature of capitalists: how cruel, how vicious they can be. I’m not too sure socialists go that far,” he expatiated.

Jerry Rawlings ruled as a military leader for eleven years and eight years as President of Ghana.
